Objet : Request for a full revision of the Bathing Water Directive
Dear Commissioner Jessika Roswall,
I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the decision not to pursue a full revision of the European Bathing Water Directive.
While the evaluation report confirms the continued relevance of the Directive, it also clearly identifies critical areas for improvement: the inclusion of emerging pollutants, better public information, stronger legislative alignment, and year-round monitoring. These elements are essential to meet the current challenges of public health, climate change, and the protection of aquatic ecosystems.
As an engaged citizen, I urge you to raise the level of ambition within the Commission and to give this Directive the central role it deserves in shaping Europe’s water policy.
In the public interest — for our health, and for the future of the Ocean — I respectfully ask you to reconsider this course of action.
